Who We Are
The Covington Health Department, part of the Alleghany Health District, is committed to supporting community health through the prevention and treatment of substance abuse. REVIVE! Lay Rescuer training is offered for community members or groups to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose emergency with the administration of naloxone. The training covers opioids, how opioid overdoses happen, risk factors for opioid overdoses, and how to respond to an overdose emergency. Naloxone dispensing is offered by appointment at all health department offices. It is available to individuals who receive on-site counseling or who have completed REVIVE! training. Drug disposal kits are also available to enable individuals to dispose of medication appropriately. Individuals who would like to quit smoking or using tobacco are encouraged to call the quit line, 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) for information and certified coaching that is free and confidential.
