The Senior Tech Career Support grant is a demonstration grant under the SCSEP, offered to DARS through the U.S. Department of Labor. The goal of the program is to provide technology and basic computer literacy training to residents of program areas who are over 55 years in age who are not computer literate. The program will provide training that will allow participants to gain basic computer skills, including those necessary for gaining employment. The program will also work with other agencies to connect participants to other services they need.
This program will cover three areas of the state:
- The city of Richmond and the counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, and Powhatan
- The Lenowisco Planning District, including the city of Norton and the counties of Lee, Wise and Scott.
- The Accomack-Northampton Planning District, which includes the counties of Northampton and Accomack.
To be eligible for this program, individuals must be 55 or older, live in the coverage area, have an includable family income of at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, and be unemployed. Priority will be given to individuals with disabilities.
Participants will be assessed for both access to and knowledge of current technology essential to employment. Basic computer literacy classes will be provided. The program will also provide access to certifications and trainings that are in demand in each area.
