The Lynchburg City Health Department participates in the Every Woman's Life (EWL) program, a public health program sponsored by the Virginia Department of Health that helps uninsured, low-income women gain access to free cervical cancer screening services. Screening and early detection reduce death rates and improve treatment options.
To be eligible, a woman must be a resident of Virginia between the ages of 50-64, meet federal income guidelines and be uninsured. Women between the ages of 18-39 who have symptoms of breast or cervical cancer or diagnostic abnormalities are also eligible.
Call Every Woman's Life toll-free referral line at 866-EWL-4YOU (866-395-4968) to find your nearest screening.
In some sites where EWL services are offered, women can also be screened for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose and also learn how to become more physically active, eat healthier foods, and more. Please visit the website for detailed information about eligibility guidelines and to find a screening provider site.
