Richmond Behavioral Health Authority's (RBHA) Therapeutic Youth Day Treatment is a behavioral health service offered in many of the public schools in the City of Richmond. Qualified Mental Health Professionals provide services to help children improve behaviors, strengthen relationships and enhance emotional well-being. Children receive extra support at school and learn new skills with the goal of having fewer problems with behavior, attendance and disciplinary issues.
The RBHA team will:
- Support youth in the classroom by monitoring, observing, providing reminders, and counseling throughout the school day.
- Conduct daily psycho-educational groups that teach social skills, anger control, problem solving, coping skills, communication, and more.
- Offer family counseling by calling the guardian each week to review the youth's progress and assist with any issues at home.
- Provide crisis intervention if needed. The RBHA team is trained to handle any situation that places the youth or their peers in harm’s way.
- Coordinate services through regular communication with teachers and any other service providers involved.
- Provide counseling. Each week, RBHA staff will meet with youth one-on-one to process any obstacles that are hindering their success. Youth will also have the opportunity to participate in a small group of their peers to practice new skills.
