Who We Are

At Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, a program of Independence House, provides:

  • assessment,
  • medication education,
  • opportunities to learn and use independent living skills and to enhance social and interpersonal skills,
  • family support and education,
  • vocational and educational opportunities,
  • advocacy to individuals with behavioral health, substance use or co-occurring disorders.

The supportive community program emphasizes strengthening an individual's abilities to function in everyday life rather than focusing on treating pathological conditions.
