DePaul Community Resources's Sponsored Residential program offered care in a home-based setting. The program matches children and adults with developmental disabilities to sponsored residential homes. Sponsored home providers, who are trained and approved by DePaul, provide support to individuals based on their specific needs, including 24-hour supervision, personal care, physical assistance, and life skills development.
Each of DePaul’s sponsored homes has completed an extensive home study and training process and has achieved compliance with all Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) regulations concerning the physical environment of the home. Sponsored home providers receive support from DePaul residential coordinators who assist with training, supervision, and case management of the individual being served. Sponsored homes have no specified contract time; the individual or their family members may choose to withdraw at any time. While a loved one is residing in a sponsored home, family involvement is encouraged. Many families visit and take their loved one for an outing, a weekend or an extended trip.
Prospective residents must have a diagnosis of developmental disability and must be able to be served medically and behaviorally in a safe manner. During the assessment process, one or more trial visits of varying length in the sponsored home is arranged. Though several trial placements may be needed, the goal is to provide the best care possible.
