Who We Are

Chesapeake Health Department participates in the Every Woman's Life (EWL) program, a public health program that helps uninsured, low-income women gain access to free breast cancer screening services.  Screening and early detection reduce death rates and improve treatment options.  In some sites where EWL services are offered, women can also be screened for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose and also learn how to become more physically active, eat healthier foods, and more.

Mammography is an important preventive health procedure for women. For early detection of breast cancer, the best option is regular screening mammograms for women over the age of 40. If you are a Virginia resident between the ages of 40-64 you may qualify. Women under 40 may be eligible if certain abnormal medical findings are present. Certain restrictions apply. For more information, call (757)382-8710 or email ChesapeakeEWL@vdh.virginia.gov

Every Woman's Life toll-free referral number is 1-866-EWL-4YOU (1-866-395-4968)
