Who We Are
The Alexandria Homeless services provide:
- Shelters for emergency* and winter**
- Eviction Storage: furniture storage and emergency shelter referrals for eligible low-income households facing immediate eviction or foreclosure
- Transitional Housing: financial assistance and services to homeless families making the transition from the emergency shelter to permanent housing
- Crisis Child Care: childcare assistance for persons in shelters seeking employment.
*The Alexandria Community Shelter is a 64-bed emergency shelter located at 2355-B Mill Road. The shelter is owned by the City of Alexandria and operated by Volunteers of America Chesapeake. Shelter is provided for singles. For more information, call 703-746-3660.
**The Winter Hypothermia Shelter provides overnight shelter from November through March at Carpenter’s Shelter and local churches. Address of Carpenter's Shelter is 5701-D Duke Street in Alexandria. This shelter also accommodates men, women and families with children. Call 703-548-7500 for more information.
The Carpenter's Shelter at 930 North Henry Street is a location that serves families experiencing homelessness. 703.746.3660. Hours are 7 p.m. - 7 a.m. daily
