Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) provides public housing for income-eligible residents of Alexandria. Information, referral, recreation, and education are also provided to the public housing residents. Waiting lists are opened periodically; call for more information or visit the website.
ARHA owns and/or operates 1,500 public and publicly assisted housing units in Alexandria. Individual or family must meet certain income eligibility requirements.
A rental assistance program for low-income Alexandria families under the Section 8 housing program is also operated by ARHA. The Housing Choice Voucher program (HCVP) is administered by ARHA. Waiting lists are opened periodically; call for more information about this program.

ARHA promotes personal and economic self–sufficiency for program participants through the implementation of social service programs that enhance family’s quality of life. ARHA operates four primary social service centers:
- Ruby J. Tucker located at 322 Tancil Court, Alexandria
- Montgomery Street Family Resource at 910 Montgomery Street, Alexandria
- Ladrey Senior Program at 300 Wythe Street, Alexandria
- Charles Houston Senior Center at 901 Wythe Street, Alexandria
