Supported Employment

Supported employment enables a person with a disability to obtain and maintain employment with the assistance of an Employment Specialist.  To be accepted for employment:

 

1. Client applies to Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), 540-434-5981, and is accepted.
2. Client and DARS Counselor or other third party agree that client Supported Employment is an appropriate service.
3. Client may request that Friendship provide supported employment services or may interview Friendship and other supported employment vendors for this area..
4. Fees are normally paid by third parties such as DARS.   Fees can be quoted upon request. Additional information is available upon the request.

Clients are normally entered into Supported Employment as soon as the service is requested by their DARS Counselor. Clients who live in the city can use Paratransit or city buses. Friendship Industries has its own bus stop. Clients who live in the county may request transportation assistance from Friendship.  Ten clients are normally enrolled in Assessment and Work Adjustment.



Residents from other locations may be considered if they provide their own transportation.
