Who We Are
The Roanoke Center is equipped with computers, phones, printers, and other technology for job seekers to use to meet their employment and training goals. The facility also houses eight different partners onsite which all provide access to dozens of workforce and training programs. The staff makes available job search assistance to individuals.
The on-site partners include the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, the Roanoke City Department of Social Services, Roanoke Valley Alleghany Region 5 Adult Education, Total Action for Progress (TAP), Virginia Western Community College (VWCC), Virginia Works, and the Greater Roanoke Workforce Development Board (GRWDB).
A wide range of employment, training, and career education program services are available to employers, workers, job seekers, and youth. Specialized services are available for veterans and people with disabilities. Services available to workers include job referral and placement, referral to training, and job search skill building activities.
The Virginia Workforce Connection website provides an online job search alternative for workers and offers an online candidate search for employers.
If you are filing a claim for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits in Virginia it is recommended that you use online services as a first option. It is quicker to access the Virginia Employment Commission online than by telephone. Internet claim filing can be accessed from the Unemployment Customer Self Help tool. The website allows individuals to apply for unemployment benefits and to manage existing claims.
