Newcomer Health and Refugee Services

The Virginia Beach Department of Public Health helps refugees receive an initial health screening within 45 days of arrival in Virginia Beach.  All refugees are provided health screening, tuberculosis screening, dental screening and immunizations, if needed.  School physicals can be completed for children entering school.  Referrals are made on an “as needed” basis.  

All physical assessments must be completed within 90 days of the date of arrival in the United States or the service cannot be provided.  To schedule an appointment for services, contact the Newcomer Health Public Health Nurse at (757) 518-2670.
