Health Education and Health Care Advocacy

The mission of the Virginia Statewide Area Health Education Centers Program is to promote health careers and access to primary care for medically underserved populations through community-academic partnerships. The mission is accomplished through the following four major areas of program activity

 

• Goal 1: Develop health careers recruitment programs for Virginia's students, especially under-represented and disadvantaged students
• Goal 2: Support the community-based training of primary care health professions students, residents, and other health professions students in Virginia's underserved communities
• Goal 3: Provide educational and practice support systems for the Commonwealth's primary care providers
• Goal 4: Collaborate with health, education, and human services organizations to achieve the shared goal of improved health and disease prevention for the citizens of the Commonwealth
