Who We Are

The Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development publishes the Fairfax County Affordable Housing Guide. The guide will help you identify many area properties affordable to low and moderate income households, including both privately-owned and publicly-owned government assisted apartments and townhouse communities located in Fairfax County.  Many of the complexes offer rents based on household income to families and single persons who meet income and other guidelines. A family is defined as two or more persons related by blood, marriage, or operation of law.

Besides Public Housing, other housing options include:

  • Fairfax County Rental Program
  • Fairfax County Senior Residences
  • Privately-Owned Residences for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities
  • Rental Affordable Dwelling Units (ADUs)
  • Privately-Owned Federally Assisted Rental Units
  • Privately-Owned Apartment Communities
  • Privately-Owned Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Properties
  • Privately-Owned Federally Assisted Cooperative Housing
