Who We Are
River's Way runs a variety of respite programs for families of youth with and without developmental or intellectual disabilities. The programs are designed to get disabled and non-disabled young people involved in recreational activities that emphasize team building, adventure and inclusion.
Respite Weekends are held at Emory and Henry College. Overnight weekends provide campers with opportunities to positive social interaction with their peers. Most campers with disabilities come from Bristol and Washington County, Virginia but all all welcome.
During respite weekends, campers with disabilities are paired with college volunteers. Adventure activities include the high ropes course, caving and the low ropes course. Creative activities include skits, games, art and small group challenges.
